ADSPW was first known as w.sport.pro-wrestling before WebTV changed the beginning of their WebTV only newsgroups to alt.discuss.
WSPW was created the night of June 6, 1997, by Miss Hardcore (whose idea it was to start a WebTV only wrestling newsgroup when WebTV began giving newsgroups to anyone who requested) and LoungeLizard (who helped Miss H spread the word, e-mailed in the creation of the newsgroup and also named it w.sport.pro-wrestling).
